L’adolescent entre passé et futur
Résumé
Le thème de l’article est la difficulté particulière que nous rencontrons dans le travail psychanalytique avec les patients adolescents par rapport à la structuration d’un sens du temps. Ceux-ci semblent vivre dans la platitude d’un présent éternel. Il manque en eux un intérêt pour le souvenir, et toute prospective tournée vers le futur semble absente. La difficulté à visualiser et construire un récit de sa propre histoire, même avant et indépendamment du fait de pouvoir retrouver en elle une signification, semble indiquer chez ces jeunes la présence d’une carence structurelle. La recherche du sens de sa propre vie trouve son expression dans l’adolescence, en lien avec la consolidation de structures, telles que l’idéal du moi et la formation d’un Projet (conscient et inconscient). Dans le monde postmoderne nous assistons à une difficulté d’identifier un signifié dans le processus général, le cours de la vie elle-même est nié comme porteur de signification. L’expérience se fragmente dans des instants ponctuels. Des exemples cliniques illustrent cette problématique inscrite dans le processus de l’adolescence.
Samenvatting
Dit artikel duidt de moeilijkheden in de analytische therapie bij adolescenten m.b.t. de strukturering van hun tijdsbeleving. Het lijkt alsof ze leven in de vlakte van een eeuwigdurend heden. Er heerst een gebrek aan aandacht voor herinneringen waarbij elk uitzicht op de toekomst ontbreekt. Het terug ophalen en opbouwen van hun eigen levensverhaal, nog vóór er sprake kan zijn van betekenis geven, lijkt bij deze jongeren een struktureel gemis. In de adolescentie gaat de zoektocht naar de zin van het leven zich uiten in een strukturele vastzetting van het ideaal-ik en in het maken van vooruitzichten (bewust en onbewust). In onze postmoderne wereld zien we hoe moeilijk het wordt om het betekende binnen een proces-gebeuren te herkennen, de gang van het leven zelf als drager van betekenis wordt genegeerd. Ervaringen verbrokkelen zich in een opeenvolging van momenten. Enkele klinische voorbeelden illusteren deze adolescentenproblematiek.
Summary
This article addresses the specific difficulties we encounter in our psychoanalytical work with adolescent patients regarding their structuring of a sense of time. They seem to live in an eternally two-dimensional present. There is a lack of interest in memories and all prospective thinking towards the future seems to be absent. Their difficulty in visualising and constructing a narrative of their own life, even before and independently of finding meaning in it, seems to indicate a fundamental structural deficiency in these adolescents. Looking for the meaning of one’s own life finds its expression in adolescence, associated with a consolidation of aspects of the personality such as the Ideal ego and the creation of a (conscious and unconscious) project. In the postmodern world we encounter the difficulty of identifying meaning in the general process; even the course of life itself is considered to be without meaning. Experience is fragmented in isolated moments. Clinical examples illustrate these difficulties in the adolescent process.
