Disillusions of psychoanalysts and psychoanalytic therapists are reviewed from the psychoanalytic literature. First the psychoanalytic treatment of Marilyn Monroe bij Ralph Greenson is discussed. Next there is a concise summary of the viewpoints of Freud, Bion, Winnicott and Kohut on the topic of illusion and disillusion followed by referals to contemporary authors as John Steiner and Lucy LaFarge. The clinical experiences with disappointing patients are summarized based on the last book of André Green on disillusions in the psychoanalytic work. Lastly there is a discussion of analytic failures inspired by the work of Goldberg.
