Verleiding and erotische tegenoverdracht

Seduction and erotic countertransference

In this article, the way in which erotic transferences and erotic coun- tertransference are represented in films and TV-series (The Sopranos, In Treatment, A Dangerous Method), is discussed. Since the article of Freud on transference love of 1915, there were original contributions by Britton, Laplanche and Stoller that open new perspectives on trans- ference love and seduction of the therapist. Transference love is inti- mately related to the countertransference problems of the analyst. The erotic countertransference anticipates transference love. Seduction of the analyst happens when the analyst is not conscious of the aggres- sion of the patient, which can lead to complications in the analysis of borderline patients. The sexual feelings and fantasies of the analyst are a road to the understanding of earlier seductions of the patient. This theme is illustrated with a clinical vignette.
