Handelend over het trauma wordt daarbij vooral naar het economish standpunt verwezen. De auteur geeft hiervan een overzicht in Freud's werk. Daarbij laat hij klaar uitschijnen dat de belangrijkste grondslag ervoor uit het biologische komt.
Hoe moeten we, daaruit vertrekkend, al de klinische gegevens die op het belang van het object voor de ontwikkeling van het psychisme wijzen, erbij invoegen ?
Derhalve wordt een bredere onderbouw voor dit begrip gezocht. Eerst worden we herinnerd aan de basis van het begrip "auto-organisatie". Vervolgens worden we er op gewezen hoe een dergelijk model zeer vruchtbaar kan zijn.
