The narrow escape

Under the impact of globalization, its interbreeding, the digital revolu- tion linked to the use of avatars and online self-manipulation and many other factors, the contemporary image of the Self has been upset. This is now conceived as plural, protean and off center as well as an object of virtual experimentation, particularly under the injunction of the search for authenticity. This perspective has also had consequences for analytic theory and practice. But if we are potentially several perso- nalities, how can we find an identity balance and self-continuity? The case of the writer Maurice Sachs will illustrate the limits of the integrative capacity of multiple selves.
