Summary

The author presents some opinions and remarks on the end of analysis published principally in the last half-dozen years.

The study is deliberately centred upon the termination of the analytic work not only in the analyst himself, but also in the analysand.

The accent is placed, moreover, upon the effects of the separation of the psycho-analyst and the analysand upon the analytic work, with the activation of the work of mourning at the different levels. Loss and recovery of the object in a psychic space organised by the depressive position appears in this perspective as the essential element in termination of the analytic work.
