Summary

Acting will not always have defensive functions. This is the starting assumption of this article which attempts to investigate the hypothesis that, in certain cases, physical contact between the patient and the therapist and the acting into which this is translated, can constitue a "corporalized" premise of an evolutive movement of the Ego, substratum of a capacity generative of new psychic activity.

This hypothesis is illustrated by fragments of the psycho-analysis of a child but applies to the study of mental functioning in certain adult patients.

The emphasis is put on specific body functions in acting, those of the erogenous zones and the skin.
