Framework objects with the double polarity – differentiated and non-differentiated – of the links

In a pioneering article, D. Flagey identifies, in certain analyses of patients who have experienced serious failures in their early rela- tionships, the function of “framework objects”, heirs to Winnicott’s “mother-environment”. These framework objects usually go unnoticed, their function being taken over by what she describes as the indivi- dual’s “ecosystem”. Flagey thus opens up the field of the non-object, non-differentiated, non-pulsatile psyche, which for me constitutes the foundation of the feeling of existence.

A few years later, J. Godfrind took up this reflection on the basis of the particular investment that certain patients make in the material framework of the analyst’s office. His reflection is based in particular on the work of Searles on “belonging” to the “non-human environment”.

This remarkable work, which was little developed in subsequent psy- choanalytical reflections, nevertheless invites us to re-examine certain founding paradigms of Freudian psychoanalysis, such as the unthought of “external reality”, the omnipresence of the “object”, and the illusion carried by the concept of the “ego” or “subject”. Godfrind’s article inparticular lays the foundations of a tierceizing dynamic between the differentiated field, invested by the drive, and the non-differentiated field, belonging to the formless. This oscillatory dynamic allows us to approach differently the problems involving processes of de-differentiation, for example in passion and melancholy.
