Summary

Greenson defines the idea of working alliance as «a non-neurotic, rational and realistic relationschip which the patient has with the analyst». This article presents the further hypothesis that this working alliance is a basic relationship in the transference, activating the patient's narcissism through the repercussions which it has on the use of the analyst as object.
